Artist Bio

Interested in art + creativity of all kinds + bringing people together to make it;

Met John Boynton in 2010 looking for studio-space in his un-renovated, century-old mill building; He said, "You handle ambiguity well;" and then, "Move in and get people." And so ArtScape transpired, originally named ArtSpace! It grew organically, literally.

Picked up spare letters in Billy Crosby's sign-making studio next door, at 53 Bradford, to create the ArtScape logo + sign that's now on the 2nd floor; found the plywood for the sign abandoned on the railroad track; the wood frame around it is actually from the wood cladding originally on mill building; many thanks to Billy for putting all the old material together so well to make something new;

By 2016, with its growing roster of artists + 2 public galleries, ArtScape + the Bradford Mill became part of the new West Concord Junction Cultural District; In 2022, ArtScape began curating public art exhibits at the neighboring Fowler Library, in West Concord. By 2024, the spring Call for Art, for 'Art in Bloom,' at the public Library, attracted 54 artists, age 9-to-90, from more than a half dozen communities, including Concord, Carlisle, Acton, Boxboro, Ayer, Lexington + Duxbury; You just never know where things will go!

People need places to creatively come together, perhaps now, more so than ever!

Bringing to mind that Norman Lear quote:

"We will save our world. But, when it is saved, I'm confident that the door will have been kicked open by things that bring us together - the arts".
